Jeju is a honey mooners island. I was actually surprised the conservative Korea had a theme park like this, so sexual. That night, we went back to Seogwipo then went to a casino on a resort for Chinese food buffet (free). I didn't gamble but the boys did, two of them came out on top the others not so much. After the casino we went to a foreigner’s restaurant and bar called Geckos. We hung out, played card games and other drinking games. Bonding!
The next day, Mari and I woke up early and went to two waterfalls. First we went to Jeongbang falls then Cheonjiyeon falls. They were both within walking distance to out hostel. We met back up with the rest of the group after they had woken up and made our way to the Hyatt Regency resort to go to the beach. We went to the beach but by the time we got there the sun was covered by clouds...no worries because within an hour the sun had come back out to grace us with her presence (I know you like that sun goddess dad). It was a nice beach day. It was sooo nice to be back near an ocean. Goodbye winter! Hello spring/summer. After the beach we went back to the hostel to eat black pig (poo pig). The black pig is a specialty in Jeju, basically the poop pigs eat poop and the meat is supposed to be better. We went to this restaurant near our hostel, my table ordered marinated beef but the other table ordered poop pig, so I tried two pieces. I'll try anything once, I guess. At least I tried it. That night we hung out on the terrace of our hostel and played more drinking games and just kicked it with our group of like 12.
The next morning we woke bright and early to go hike Mount Hallasan. We did an eight hour hike up Mt. Hallasan volcano, oh and it was raining hard. It took us between 4 and 5 hours to get up and about 3 to get back down. It was raining on and off but closer to the summit it was like climbing Mt. Everest, well to me anyway. The rain was harder and the winds knocked me over. I had to hold on to the ledge up the last stairs to the summit.
I reached the top then immediately went back down, but hey I made it to the top. Our group ended up splitting up along the way. A few were ahead; I stayed with about a group of six but finished the mountain with only one other person. The rest staggered behind us but Jeff and I were beat by two hours by Barry and a hour by Mari. Oh well. We got back, showered and finally put on dry clothes because ponchos don't keep out all the water. They didn't keep out any water.
Hit a restaurant for dinner, Baskin Robbins for dessert and then we just chilled out because we had to pack for our Tuesday flights. Next time, I wanna explore Jeju city and maybe the eastern side of the island. Also there is an island off Jeju which you can rent scooters and mopeds. So it’s definitely an option, dad. A three day school week this week (today is Thursday), then a chill out weekend in Daegu. Summer vacation planing, because I think I have my vacation days. August 13th to the 28th.
16 days of southeastern Asia here I come! We are planing, Thailand and Cambodia (maybe Vietnam). We will see where we actually end up because we all have so many ideas on where we want to go. Don't worry dad, we are planing as a group. Safety in numbers, right??
